Making Faces Week 9

I am out in LA this week, and I have a new look to post for you. Its from the Kevin Aucoin Book Making Faces. I am really enjoying doing this project, its really helping me figure out angles for taking beauty images.

The girl in the book, has the most amazingly dark skin, I on the other hand, have the complete opposite. Thankfully its easy to follow the steps and make the adjustments.

Yay for bight colors!

JenPurist

Face: Makeup Forever Luminizer

Eyes: On brows Mac Eye Brows in Spiked . Eyes are lined with Mac Spring 15 lip and cheek palette in One to Watch. Finishing off lashes with Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Lips: Mac lip liner in Soar, Mac pro lip Palette

Making Faces Week 8

This weeks look is called “the anarchist” This look was very clean, with a graphic eye color and line.

The amazing Kevin Aucoin book Making Faces is again where I am drawing from inspiration. I did make a personal discovery this week noticing how little Mr. Aucoin uses foundation. He instruct to use concealer where necessary and less is more which I love, and always want to do but, don’t always.

Over all this look is extremely light makeup with a clean finish and just a pop of creative drama. I used the same graphic shape that was used on the model in the book, but you can do any shapes you like.

jenanarchistSkin : Prepped with moisturizer no foundation or concealer needed.

Eyes : Graphic liner applied with small angle brush Mac Fall 2013 Eye Palette in Blazer, Fall 2014 Eye Palette in Azure Haze, Storm Cloud, and Organic.

Lips: Mac Cremesheen Glass in On the Scene

Making Faces Week 7

This weeks look is called The Sophisticate , its a thirties inspired  Film Noir look. I know another no eyebrow look. I have been skipping around a little. I didn’t want all 3 of the no eyebrow looks together. So, my friends and family would know that I did not shave off my eyebrows. I repeat I DID NOT SHAVE OFF MY EYEBROWS, mom! 🙂  ( don’t be scared Lori)

Either way its so strange to see myself without them.  I never think that they are dark until I try to hide them. I did exactly the steps in the book, get the book for full details. No matter what I do I can still see them. I asked a few of my Drag Queen friends….there response….”there is an APP for that.” So again photo shop wins out. For those of you who don’t photo shop there is an I-phone app that is called Tune your Face, Thanks AGGY

This one I have included a black and white, and a color photo. Why a black and white beauty image you ask, well that’s what it is in the book 🙂 I have also included color for those of you who want to see it.

Thanks

Jen

blackandwhite colorFace: For the skin I prepped with Mac Natural Radiance Primer in Yellow to Shop and limited concealer from the Mac Light Palette I then used my Chanel 20 Claire Loose Powder

Eyes: I lined the bottom water line with Kryolan Faceliner in 60. I then used my Kryolan Eye Shadow Palette in V3 to shade the lids from the outside corner of the lid to the inside crease, a tiny bit is then dusted under the eye at the lash line.I smudged black from the same shadow palette into my upper lash line and applied Ardell individual lashes with Duo Dark Glue. Finishing off lashes with Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Lips: Mac Lipstick in Hang up

Making Faces Week 6

This weeks look from the amazing Kevin Aucoin Book Making Faces is called The Exotique its the one he did on Cher! Super Glossy!

This look is all about wet looking dewy shiny skin, I loved this look so much,I just wish it left my eyelids less sticky.

I was easily able to wear this out on the street, ran my errands and didn’t get any strange looks, actually I got a free coffee! So if you like free coffee, I say give this look a try!

SirenFace: I used Makeup Forever Uplight Luminizer Gel in 12 Dewy Warm Glow along with Makeup Forever HD Blush in 225 Peachy Pink

Eyes: For the lid I actually used Mac Lip Palette in Modern Browns because I did not have any brown cream shadows and it worked out really nicely, easy smooth coverage. It recommended Petroleum Jelly for the high shine on the lids, but I used the Mac Studio Eye Gloss. I brushed my brows up and lined them with Mac Eyebrows in Linger, and Urban Decay Mascara in  Perversion (my favorite, all my friends are using it too!)

Lips: I used Trucco Lip Pencil in Naked

Making Faces Project Week 5

This weeks look is called the ” The Temptress” from the Kevin Aucoin book Making Faces.

I used a fake bang to imitate the feeling of the photo. I actually really love this look.

I think the simple eye with the heavy lash and liner wing slightly out has been my favorite look thus far and possible the one I would be most comfortable wearing out. The bangs were pretty funny since they are no where near the color of my hair, but it was fun!

TemptressThe Look

Face: For the skin I prepped with Mac Natural Radiance Primer in Yellow to Shop and limited concealer from the Mac Light Palette I then used my Mac Pro Palette Shaping Powder in Soft Focus for the cheek.

Eyes: I then lined the water line with Mac Pro Long wear liner in Definedlty Black I then took an angle brush and softly lined the top of the lash line with Mac Carbon and winged it out. Lid was lightly swept Mac Cinderella Collection in Vapour and Phloof. with a light white I used my Urban Decay Perversion Mascara. Brows were filled in lightly with Mac Brow Liner in Spiked.

Lips: I used my Mac Viva Glam I Lipstick with Mac Pro Long wear liner in Kiss me Quick

Making Faces Project Week 4

This weeks look inspired by the Kevin Aucoin makeup book making faces is called  The Flapper so  of course I felt obligated to do a little pin curl on my hair, using the Aquage Defining Gel.

The eyes for the flapper are very smoldry with a dark red lip, I could see myself wearing this look on a night out sometime, it was a little funny to walk home in my extra bundled up winter gear though. Enjoy!

JenFlapper

For the Skin: I used very limited concealer for this image, as instructed by the book, it says not to use much foundation if its not needed. I simply used my Mac Concealer Palette in Light

For the Eyes: I used my Urban Decay Naked Palette in Creep and Gunmetal, I then Lined my water line with Mac Pro Longwear Definitely Black Liner in  Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

For the Cheeks :  I used Face Atelier Ultra Bronzer in Cognac

For the Lips: I used Mac Creemsheen Lipstick in Dare You.

Making Faces Project Week 3

Week 3 is titled The Starlet I have to say I was not going to actually bleach out my brows for fear of looking like a crazy alien.  Its definably a fun look, but for normal wear I think I will be keeping my actual eyebrows 🙂

So far I have really been enjoying this project, although its been really strange trying to photograph myself, The first 2 sets of photos I was setting the timer and running in front hoping to catch a decent image, After doing a little research I can now click the picture from my phone, which makes it much easier but a lot less funny to watch, ask Claire from bohemian-belle She can give you a first hand account of the hilarity that ensues!

JenStarletBrows I started by sealing my brows with a glue stick followed by and eyebrow sealer I got on Amazon called Model in a Bottle.

I then used my Mac Concealer Palette in Light

Eyes: I used TiGi Precision Black Eyeliner Pen and Urban Decay Perversion Mascara

Cheeks: I used Mac powder blush in Frankly Scarlett.

Lips:I used Nars Matte lip pencil in their new Color Iberico

Making Faces Project Week 2

This week my look from the Kevin Aucoin book Making Faces is The Vamp, the original look in the book was done on Demi Moore, as you can see from my pictures we have completely different coloring. Again I try to follow Mr. Aucoin’s steps rather than copy the photo look.  http://www.kevynaucoin.com/

I found that this vamp look is way different from my average makeup day! I loved the eyes but the instructions say to line the inside of the lips for that Clara Bow look. My top lip is smaller than my bottom, so for me it felt really strange to emphasis that, but the project dictates it. I’m trying to, “get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” ( thanks navy seals)

jenvamp2The Directions stated to use hardly any foundation only concealer is necessary so I went sans anything for the face other than my Dior Hydra Life Moisturizer http://www.dior.com

Eyes : I used my Urban Decay Palette using the grey tones. www.urbandecay.com for the liner I used Mac Pro Long wear Black Ice http://www.maccosmetics.com
and Urban Decay Mascara in Perversion www.urbandecay.com

For the Lips: I lined them with Mac Pro Long wear in Kiss me Quick and  Used my Mac Editorial Red Lip Palette to mix the lip color. http://www.maccosmetics.com

Making Faces Project Week 1

I just repurchased a book that I absolutely love by Kevin Aucoin , its called “Making Faces” for those of you not familiar with the book its basically a inspirational and instructional book on all types of makeup.

I do hair and makeup all the time from brides to commercial clients, but I feel like there is always something extra to discover. I decided to start a project where I would use myself as the model and practice the looks in the book. Of course at first I was like I should do a different look everyday, then I thought about it. I think that one look a week is totally doable.

Here is the look that I came up with after being inspired by Kevin Aucoins look ” The Innocent” I tried to follow the steps and not copy the photos.

innocent-makeup-

I have to say this may not look very extreme to some of you but I definatly felt out of my comfort zone. I highly recommend trying some looks you are not comfortable with just to push your self a little further. I don’t think this will be my everyday look, my lids were super shimmery, but to me it was sticky. I also never wear pink on my cheeks…but maybe that will be my first change.

I created a very glossy clean skin tone with Mac  Studio Finish Concealer NW 20,  and Urban Decay Naked Skin Foundation 1.0  I mixed in a little Temptu S/B highlighter in Champagne Shimmer 053 on the cheek bones and a little Mac Trend Palette Spring 2015 Spring Session on the apples of the cheeks.

For the Eyes I used Mac Studio Eye Gloss in Pearl Varnish and on the lid Mac Trend Creme Palette 2012 in Smoked Paprika I also used Urban Decay Super Curl Mascara.

For the lips I used Mac Trend Palette Spring 2015 in Go Guava with a light coat of Mac Dazzelglass Girls Delight
